YouTube becomes increasingly popular

As generations continue to spend more time online, many more people are earning their livings based in their Internet presence. This includes Youtube “vloggers,” or people who film everything from their daily lives from live video game action to rants to fashion hauls.

The journey of finding the best Youtubers to watch begins as a daunting task, but starting with these channels will point you in the right direction.

Tyler Oakley—Tyler started Youtube as a way to continue communicating with his friends while away at college. Since then, he has made various videos based on his love for everything pop culture and has over a million subscribers.

Troye Sivan—Star of the movie Spud, Troye began vlogging about a year ago. He covers and writes his own songs, one based on John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars. Troye’s channel recently attracted attention worldwide and his recent surpassing one million subscribers is proof.

PewDiePie—PewDiePie is a Swedish video game commenter also known as Felix. With over 17 million subscribers, his channel is one of the most subscribed on Youtube. He is known for his comments and reactions while playing various action and mystery video games.

DailyGrace—Grace Helbig posts videos every weekday with a theme and well-known introduction song unique to each day. She uses her dry sense of humor to review products, comment on comments directed toward her, and teach her viewers how to do various activities. Her two million subscribers look forward to each new video.

Zoella—Zoe Sugg features a variety of videos. She often does hauls showing off her recent fashion and makeup purchases. However, she also includes videos to get to know her better and various challenges, such as “Truth and Dare” and “The Cotton Ball Challenge.” She recently won Best British Vlogger at the Radio 1 Teen Awards and exceeded three million subscribers.

Paint—Jon Cozart, a University of Texas at Austin student, is known for his rare but high quality videos. He is known for his music videos, such as the “Cup Song—Extreme Version” as well as “After Ever After,” a story of the effect of current events on the Disney princesses. Cozart creates his videos by putting his voice in loops and layers as well as on top of musical instruments. His one million subscribers wait in anticipation for his upcoming video

Vlogbrothers—This channel was created by the  brothers John and Hank Green in 2007. The brothers started uploading as a way to communicate after deciding not to text each other for a year. Since the project has ended, they have uploaded videos to amuse their viewers, teach about current events, get their viewers to think about social issues, and update everyone about their lives. The Green brothers also star in videos on the SciShow, Crashcourse, and Mental Floss channels, among others. Their one million subscribers are known collectively as nerdfighteria.

Danisnotonfire—Dan Howell began posting videos in 2009 after spending years admiring popular Youtube stars. His videos feature stories based on his awkward failures, his controversial opinions and his quarter-life crisis. Dan’s channel continues to grow at almost three million subscribers.

Amazingphil—Phil Lester posts videos updating his viewers on what is going on in his life. His videos often feature stories on how he was a weird kid, his awkward and hilarious day-to-day adventures, and various topics to get to know him a little better. Phil’s channel recently hit one million subscribers and continues to grow.
