Track team competes in Texas Relays

The track team attended the Texas Relays in Austin on March 27-29. The team competed against teams from all over the state at the meet.

“It was great to race against some similar-minded people who are also competitive about track,” sophomore Kerry Shanklin said.

Not only was the meet good for the team, but the trip was an enjoyable escape. The team missed two days of school for the track meet.

“It was fun to go to UT stadium and run there. We also went shopping in Austin, which was great for the team to get to enjoy downtown Austin,” sophomore Hannah Harden said.

At the meet, the team performed well with many runners earning personal records. This poses optimism for the upcoming district meet.

“I ran better than last year at this meet, which makes me feel good about the rest of the track season,” Kerry said.

The girls 4 by 4 relay team of Lindy Miller, Jada Propes, Madalyn Katz and Jordan Otto ran a season-best 52.53. The boys 4 by 4 relay of Michael Laday, Matt Lane, Luke Rehfuss and Stone Sawyer ran a 3:34.57, and the girls team of Hannah Harden, Grace Mallory, Madalyn Katz and Jordan Otto ran a 4:24.96.

“Our girl’s 4 by 4 ran really well,” Hannah said. “I feel our 4 by 4 team and our boys team of 4 by 2 and 4 by 4 are our strengths.”

The team looks forward to the upcoming district comeptition. The hope remains that the team will advance runners to the regional level.

“We have a strong team with a lot of depth at every event. Hopefully, we will finish strong at district,” sophomore Cameron Weir said.
