The girls golf team ended their season after the District Championship team advanced to Regionals on the April 14 and 15 at Cottonwood golf course in Waco.
The varsity team consisted of captain Taryn Marstella, juniors Gracie Baergen and Madison Cooley, sophomore Stefani Kessler and freshman Caroline Hall.
These girls took home first place in the District 9-5A District Girls Golf Championship on March 27 at Sherrill Park, advancing them to the regional competition.
Gracie grasped the number-two spot in the district tournament, and Caroline came close behind in third place.
Also medaling was Stefani with sixth place and Madison in 11th. Competing on the second girls golf team were junior Jansen Rees and sophomores MaKenzie Hagood, Madie Engels and Taylor Horlick.
The championship team that advanced to the regional competition were not pleased with their performance on the April 14 and 15.
“We didn’t do as well as we hoped,” Gracie said.
There was treacherous weather during the two competition days.
“There were 35 mph winds, hail and 40-degree weather, and the rain basically flooded the course,” Stefani said. “The next day it started out at 35 degrees and rose to about 65 with 5 mph winds.”
At this point the girls were too far behind, and nobody was able to place.
Although it came to an unfortunate end, the girls golf team had a great season.
“The win at districts was an awesome experience, and I couldn’t be more proud of our team,” Gracie said.
