Summer brings much-anticipated big budget films and sequels that are sure to excite

There will be several big budget films coming to theaters this summer. Moviegoers are excited for the big franchise films and sequels that will come out during the next couple of summer months.

Starting off the slew of summer movies this year is Maleficent, which comes out May 30. This movie is a revitalized version of the age-old tale of Sleeping Beauty. Maleficent features Angelina Jolie as the evil queen in this spooky film. Disney set a budget limit of $200 million for this project.

The next big movie, Edge of Tomorrow, is released in theaters on June 6 and features Tom Cruise alongside Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton. The science fiction film details an alien invasion and the humans trying to stop it. It is directed by Doug Liman, the mastermind behind The Bourne Identity and Go.

22 Jump Street, the much-anticipated sequel to 21 Jump Street, comes out on June 13. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum join forces again to battle crime in this buddy cop comedy. The movie has the same team of directors as the first film, Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Next up is Transformers: Age of Extinction, which will be released on June 27. This is the fourth movie of the Transformers installment and will star a completely different cast. Mark Wahlberg and Nicola Peltz star in this action film. The director is action films director Michael Bay.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is set to be released on July 11 and features a cast including Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman and Keri Russel. This is the sequel to the 2011 science fiction film Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which starred James Franco and Freida Pinto.

The superhero movie Guardians of the Galaxy comes out on Aug. 1 with an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper and John C. Reilly. It is being produced by Marvel and is based on the comics of the same name. Guardians of the Galaxy is directed by James Gunn, who helped direct the 2013 Thor: The Dark World.

The summer brings another film directed by Michael Bay. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a reboot of the comic book series from the ’80s and ’90s, hits theaters on Aug. 8. This action comedy film stars Megan Fox alongside Johnny Knoxville. The film is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman, who also directed the action movie Battle: Los Angeles from 2011.

Ending the summer movies is Sin City: A Dame to Kill, which comes out on Aug. 22. This crime thriller is the sequel to the 2005 Sin City. The film will stars Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis and Josh Brolin.

  1. Which one are you most excited for? I can’t wait for Guardians of the Galaxy and Apes on Horses….I mean Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I’m not excited for but think it will be top 3 biggest films of the summer is How to Train your Dragon 2.
