Big changes are coming to the Pearce administration this year. New principals will be in place for the 2014-2015 school year.
In addition to a new head principal, Mr. Philip Bates, freshmen, juniors and seniors will have new principals as well.
“The duties of all the principals have been reassigned,” assistant principal Donna Anthony said.
Mr. John Wing will be assuming the place of senior assistant principal, Ms. Talandra Griffen will become the junior assistant principal, Mr. Rodney Beasley will continue to be the sophomore assistant principal, Ms. Katie Mottram will become freshman assistant principal for students A-L, and Ms. Donna Anthony will be freshman assistant principal for students M-Z.
These changes follow the retirement of former head principal Beverly Vance and the resignation of former senior principal Chakosha Powell.
“While its sad to see Ms. Vance and Ms. Powell go, I look forward to the fresh opportunities that these new principals will bring,” junior Sebastian Elverskog said.
Two new assistant principals, Talandra Griffen and Katie Mottram, will be coming to Pearce. Ms. Griffen comes from Richardson High School and Ms. Mottram comes from Lake Highlands High School.
Ms. Mottram has been teaching for 10 years, the last eight at LHHS. Most recently, she has been an instructional specialist and taught Pre-AP and AP French. She will be starting to work with Pearce freshmen this fall.
“I am really looking forward to being a PHS Mustang, as I know all the freshman are as well. I am eager to be a part of the Pearce community and can’t wait to get the year started,” Ms. Mottram said.
“I will bring energy and enthusiasm to my new position and will continue in the tradition of excellence at J.J. Pearce,” Ms. Mottram added.
The new head principal at Pearce, Philip Bates, will be joining Pearce from Richardson North Junior High. He has previously worked at several RISD campuses and has been working in the district for 16 years.
“This will definitely be a big change for Pearce, as the administration is completely different,” junior Emma Conditt said. “I hope they’ll continue the good work the previous principals did.”
This will be the first time that Pearce is getting a new head principal since 2009, when Ms. Vance took office.
