By Jacob Berrier | Staff WriterOn Tuesday, Sept. 9, Tim Cook and the Apple team announced the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, both released on Sept. 19, and the Apple Watch, set for release in early 2015.
The iPhone 6 might be one of the most awaited new technology products of the year, and Tim Cook did not disappoint. Releasing a fresh and sleek seamless design, the iPhone keeps its trademark beauty. But perhaps the most significant, and perhaps controversial aspect is the 4.7-in. screen for the 6, and the 5.5-in. for the 6 Plus.
“I think the iPhone 6 Plus is way too big to be practical, plus my hands are too small to reach the screen,” sophomore Sam Braht said. Apple fixed this issue by creating a feature in which the screen slides down toward the bottom of the phone.
“I think it’s really impressive how Apple always seems to make such cool stuff,” senior Eriq Diaz said.
Tim Cook also announced the most ground-breaking product since he gained his position as the CEO of Apple following the death of Steve Jobs: the Apple Watch.
“I don’t really see a lot of people buying the Apple Watch,” senior Harley Mandel said. “But it looks cool.”
This should be interesting considering the failure of other smart watches on the market. Apple claims that it is the most personal Apple product ever released, and it will be able to reach buyers like never before.
iOS 8 was released on Sept. 17. It included updates to staple apps such as messages and photos as well as new ways to connect with apps and other devices. Features that are added will help the functionality of the phone stay simple and convenient so it is always easier for the user.
Similar to Apple’s September 2013 release cycle, which included both the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5c, this year’s batch of new products includes two different iPhones simultaneously hitting the market. This is surprising due to the fact that last year’s sales on the iPhone 5c did not meet expectations. It will be interesting to see if the 6 and 6 Plus sell well, and which one will sell better.
“I got the iPhone 5s the day it released last year, and with ATT Next, I am hoping to get the iPhone 6 as well,” Harley said. “I’m really looking forward to it.”
