The varsity girls golf team participated in the Meadowbrook Classic golf tournament on Monday, Oct. 27, in Fort Worth. This was the second tournament that the team has participated in so far this year, with the team taking third place out of three teams.
Jansen Rees, Molly Peterson, Kenzie Hagood, Taylor Horlick, Samantha Shoulders and Maddie Engels all participated in the tournament.
“We had seven girls from our team participate in the tournament,” junior Taylor Horlick said. “All of our girls did a great job, However, we still need to work on our concentration skills.”
The team experienced a wide variety of weather conditions on the course throughout the day.
“The day started off really cold,” Taylor said, “but then it got warmer and turned into a really good day for golfing with little wind and high humidity, which are ideal conditions.”
For some of the players, this was their best tournament this year.
“I got my lowest score yet of a 90, which placed me in second place,” junior Maddie Engels said. “I got two birdies when I played, which I had never done before.”
The team competed with golfers from other schools in the Dallas area.
“Pearce was last overall,” Maddie said. “We competed against Richardson and Coppell.”
The girls enjoy playing on the golf team for several reasons.
“I enjoy being on the golf team because i get to practice and meet new people,” Maddie said. “Since we never play games with our teammates, we get to meet a lot of different girls from different schools.”
Captain Gracie Beargen is proud of her teammates effort and is looking forward to the upcoming tournaments this year.
“I am proud of the efforts that our team has put in so far this year,” Gracie said. “We have two tournaments in the next two weeks in Waco and at Canyon Creek. I hope that we do well and I know that we will try our best.”
