The Winterguard performed their preview in the Pearce big gym on Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. They have been practicing for this preview since December.
This is the first time the Guard has done the preview, and it was led by captain Jordan Warford and lieutenant Shelby Willimason on Jan. 29. They are the leaders because they were two of the most qualified of the candidates after the selection process ended. This is their first year as captain and lieutenant.
“The preview gave us a chance to perform in from of a crowd before our WGI performance,” freshman Elizabeth Dworkin said.
The Guard practices for three hours on Monday and Thursday and two hours on Tuesday. “I always tell the kids that everything you do is a performance and to always do everything to the highest level in everything you do, and for them to have high expectations of themselves,” Winterguard director Dan Suniga said.
Mr. Suniga has been the director of the Winterguard for four years, and he directed the Guard through the new routine. His favorite thing about being the director is seeing how the students start out to becoming adepts at what they do.
The preview was a demonstration of what the Guard has been working on for their friends and family. This was a whole new routine that required hours of practice to learn and perfect.
“Everything is a performance. Look up, smile and have the time of your life,” junior Shelby Willimason said.
