Since Halloween of 2010, many people tune in Sundays to watch AMC’s hit TV show, The Walking Dead, every time a new season airs.
The Walking Dead follows a sheriff named Rick Grimes who awakes from a coma to a post-apocalyptic world inhabited with flesh-eating zombies, known throughout the series as ‘walkers.’ He sets out to find his family and encounters small groups of survivors throughout the series, but in this world it’s “fight the dead, fear the living”.
“Each season is something different, which is why I still watch,” said junior Noah Mora, who has followed the show since its premiere in 2010. “We either lose a character we love and are devastated by the loss, or we lose someone who we don’t care to see leave.”
Throughout the series AMC has both introduced and killed off some of the main characters. However, a few characters such as Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun), Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs), Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) and fan favorite Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) have remained throughout all seasons.
“Daryl’s that one guy that can do everything, and he has awesome crossbow skills,” junior Samuel May said. While Daryl seems at first like a big and tough brute, viewers figure out he truly cares for his friends and considers them family, becoming relevant as the series progresses.
The Walking Dead returned from its midseason break on Feb. 8 and drew over 14.81 million viewers for the second part of season 5.
“This episode amazed me as each episode does, although the fact he had to die is pretty sad,” junior Hope Blankenship said.
This season ended on March 29.
