That band was in Corpus Christi and Port Aransas from Thursday, April 23, to Sunday, April 26. The primary purpose of the trip was to compete in the South Coast Music Festival held in Corpus Christi each year.
Three out of Pearce’s four bands performed: wind ensemble, wind symphony and symphonic band. Concert band did not perform because they did not have enough members who were able to attend the annual trip to Corpus Christi.
“Wind ensemble got 1+ scores, wind symphony got 1 scores and won the competition in their category, and symphonic band got 2 scores,” junior Brittany Grubert said.
“This trip is a reward for all the hard work we’ve put into band,” junior Sarah Taquet said. “We play well all year, and we get to go to the beach as a result.”
The band members stayed at the Port Royal Ocean Resort and Conference Center. Besides competing in the South Coast Music Festival, band members participated in tug-of-war competitions and Texas SandFest.
“Every year the seniors have a senior dinner,” junior Carolina Ramirez said.
For their senior dinner, seniors went to an Italian restaurant in Port Aransas while freshmen, sophomores and juniors had “Plate Awards.” “Plate Awards” are where the upperclassmen give every freshman a personalized award. Passing certain awards down is a tradition many band members treasure.
“My favorite part of the band trip was all the downtime we got,” junior Sarah Taquet said. “We were able to spend it with our friends by the pool or by the beach.”
Every four years the band goes on an out-of-state trip. In the years band does not go out of state, they go to Corpus Christi. The next out-of-state band trip will be in 2018.
