Softball team to hold movie night fundraiser

The Pearce softball is hosting a movie night on Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. on their field. They will show A League of Their Own starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis and Madonna.

This is the first time this has been done to raise money at Pearce.

The money that is raised from his event will go toward improving the softball field, as well as funding the team, the Kaitlin Seidel Scholarship Fund and the Parent Heart Watch foundation.

The players went around the community to get sponsors and raise money for the movie night.

Kaitlin Seidel was a softball player who died of a heart attack on July 30, 2006.

“I’m really excited for how the movie will go down, and we are very hopeful that the community will come out and support softball and enjoy themselves,” senior Izzy Fanucci said.

A League of Their Own is about two rival sisters who join the first professional female league and help it succeed.

The movie takes place in the US Midwest during WWII and is two hours and eight minutes long.

“I’m really excited for the event,” Assistant Coach Kathryn Parker said. “We got rained out the first time we tried to do it, but I’m glad we’re able to do it now.”

The movie won’t start until after sundown because it will be easier to see the movie at night. This will give families a chance to sit down, eat and talk with friends.

“I’m looking forward to spending time with all my friends and their families and watching a awesome movie,” junior Vivian Taylor said.

Anyone attending will watch the movie from the field. The movie watchers will be permitted to set up chairs and spread blankets on the field to watch the movie, which will be displayed by a projector.

Izzy came up with the idea for movide night last spring, but it was a collective team effort to organize and execute the event. Because of all the rain last year, it was moved to this school year.

“I think it will be a great bonding experience for our girls and a great opportunity for the community to come out and join us,” Coach Parker said. “Plus, it’s one of my favorite movies, so that makes it even better.

Before the movie starts, players will sell tickets, get people seated in order to ensure that everybody can see the screen and help out with anything else.

When the movie starts, they will go around and see concessions which are unknown at the moment. Family members will also help the players with their assignments.
