TAFE introduces students to the teaching profession

By Alvaro Juarez | Journalism 1 Staff

The Texas Association of Future Educators is a non-profit organization allowing young women and men to explore the teaching profession. TAFE is an after-school club that is now open to anybody who is interested in learning more about the teaching and training field.

The sponsor, Kate Good, will hold meetings every other Wednesday of each month. The meetings are at 4:15 p.m. and are about 30 minutes long in room E105A.

TAFE members will do a variety of activities. “In this club students learn more about the teaching and training industry,” Ms. Good said. “We will have guest speakers, and do social activities and teacher appreciation projects. This club also goes to regional and state competitions the following year. If awarded in the top spots, the student might have an opportunity to get a scholarship.”

Helping students have a meaningful internship experience is one of the reasons Ms. Good decided to sponsor TAFE. “I think this would be a great opportunity for the students taking the teaching internship program. They get to know each other better and make friends,” Ms. Good said. Ms. Good is the only sponsor for this club at Pearce.

Students who are interested in joining the group should go ahead and join before it’s too late. Students who want to know more information about this club can speak to Ms. Good in her room, E105A. Posters are also located near the stairways that contain information for interested students.
