Confidence is high for varsity boys soccer state championship run

This year for the boys varsity soccer team will be one for the books. The team is looking very strong and confident in the upcoming soccer season. They will have a handful of returning seniors to the varsity squad, along with a few seniors making their debut season and some freshmen and sophomores.

Senior Connor Jones is excited about the season. “This soccer team is looking to make a great run at district this year. With eight returning seniors and a wave of new talent, the whole group is excited about what’s to come,” Connor said.

The team is definitely looking forward to this season. As freshmen, Kent Malloy and Connor watched their state championship dreams fade as the varsity boys lost in Round Rock just one win from the state championship.

Kent has experience with going deep in the playoffs. “We’re looking to do something no Pearce sport has done in a while,” he said. “Remembering the heartbreak of the seniors after losing in the regional championship just four years ago makes me more motivated than ever. It is finally my senior year and I’ve never had more confidence in my team than I do now. A state championship will be brought home to Pearce High School this year.”

On the technical side of things, individual talent has never been so abundant. Young talent and returning talent are all over the place. The defense is looking very strong, perhaps only three in the back will be needed this year. The strong midfield enjoys excellent ball handling and distribution from the center and great speed from the outside. The forwards have returning top goal scorer Kent Malloy to lead the attack. Last year Kent netted 17 goals as well as four assists, topping his sophomore year stats of just 13 goals and one assist.

Predicting can only do so much. This year will be a difficult one, with returning state champs and district champs Dallas Jesuit, along with the 2016 state champions, the Coppell Cowboys. Now it is up to Pearce’s seniors to lead and keep everyone motivated as they take on the season.
